Weekly Social Media Posting

At the start of the new year I needed a way to get back into my creativity with graphic design. I had the idea that every week I would design a quote and post it to my instagram story. I did really good with posting for the first four months of the year, but life got in the way. This project really unlocked my creativity. Creating a new design every week got the creative juices flowing and helped set the stage for the rest of the projects I completed throught the year. Here’s some of my favorite designs.

The quotes were designed with Adobe Illustrator. The mock-ups were created with Adobe Photoshop.

Logo Design

I had a realtor approach me and they asked me to design a logo. During the creation process they decided to keep their original logo. I ended up editing the original logo to their liking.

Here are the top four logos I created before they changed their mind.

Istitute Posters

Poster Design

I was asked to help create posters for activities held after institute classes. Institute offers religion classes for 18-30 year-olds, and can be used to recieve college credit depending on the insitution. The first poster I created was for a welcome back event. I wanted this design to feel fun and familiar, so I made a 90s inspired design. The second poster was for a question panel. Since these types of events can be a bit bland and over-looked, I wanted to go for fun colors and a bold look. The final poster was for a pie eating contest. For this design I wanted to lean into the autumn vibe so I used leaves as a pattern in the background, and added a big slice of pie. These posters were printed and hung in class rooms and on various bulliten boards. Everything was created using Adobe Illustrator.

Summer Adventure

One of my favorite things as a kid was coloring books. I love to color pictures solve puzzles, play games. Seriously one of my favorite ways to pass the time. I would turn on the TV and just color once I finished my homework. I felt like it would be fun to create my own coloring book. One of the best parts of being a kid was summer vacation so I figured to make my book summer themed. Each page has its own adventure. It was fun to create my own puzzles and who knows maybe one day I’ll make more activity books because this project was so fun!

An Awesome Mother’s Day Gift

You how know every mom has their own catchphrases. Those things you heard her say a million times over? Well this Mother’s Day I decided to immortalize those phrases by designing up some of my Mom’s most famous quotes. I decided to do this because I was broke and I could design these for free (yay). I also did this because one day she won’t be around to say those things and it’s a good way to remember her. I even asked my siblings for help to make sure I got all the best phrases. It was fun to reflect back on my childhood and capture the essence of these phrases.

This is probably the most used and most memorable mom quote. My mom would come into a room and tell us to turn off the lights and open the shutters because “the sun shines for free”. Now that I’m older I understand the struggle and find myself saying it as well.

This mom quote was another popular one. Whenever one of my siblings or I faced a problem instead of giving us the answer she would say “problem solve”. This caused us to think about the situation and become problem solvers. This also made us very independent children and now I am a very capable adult because I learned those problem solving skills when I was young. Thanks mom.

My mom would say this one when she would be goofing around. She would dance, or do some physical activity and follow it with “I still got it”. You go mom. You got it.

My mom would say this one as a warning. She was born and raised in Las Vegas and said growing up I’ll never move somewhere cold. She ended up going to college in Idaho. While she was there she said I’ll never work with potatoes. She then ended up getting a job in a potato warehouse. Moral of the story don’t say you’ll never do something because you will.

This was one that was typically said with an annoyed tone. She would be waiting on one of us kids to leave the house and then this phrase would follow. This phrase is also popular among the whole extended family. Beware don’t take too long to leave or you just might hear this one.

This last one became popular while I was at school. It is common for my family to text in multiple texts or “double text” (each message is its own thought and is sent as such). My mom would send the lip emoji as a sign that the conversation was over. It was more like an I love you goodbye type thing.

Once I completed these quotes I tried to figure out where my mom would put them. I looked around the house and I found a cute frame that was not being used and based my quotes off the size of the frame. I then wrapped it up all cute. The quotes now sit in the entryway of our house.
